Here’s a prize not even Michael Phelps could win. When it comes to sending text messages, no one can beat My Svensson, at least in her native Sweden.

The 17-year-old student needed only 61 seconds to write a 141-character SMS message full of difficult-to-spell words and correct punctuation. This made her the winner of the Swedish text messaging championship, sponsored by a Swedish cellphone company.

“I was very tense in the finals when I realized how much money I could win,” said My. She plans to use her 2,650 euro (NT$122,500) prize for a holiday in France, a local newspaper reported last week.

My, who typed faster than her nearest rival by seven seconds, didn’t manage to beat her personal best of 50 seconds, which she got during the semi-finals.

Text messaging was originally designed to be used by deaf people, but became extremely popular, especially with teenagers and young people.

文字簡訊本來是為了聽障人士設計，結果卻廣受歡迎，尤其是受到青少年和年輕人的喜愛。
